Washington State Poet Laureate, Elizabeth Austin and Alice Derry, a former teacher at Peninsula College, both presented poems at the Foothills Writers Series event Thursday, Jan 29. The audience in the near capacity Little Theater watched attentively as these poets painted metaphoric word portraits. “The most exciting part was the conversation at the end,” said Janet Lucas English professor and organizer of this event.
The event Poets in Conversation featured Austin, quizzing Derry regarding what her view of poetry was. “She really tries to foster interest in the arts; it is more than just a reading,” Lucas said.
