The Pirate Union Building was revamped into a Health and Safety Forum complete with a gun simulation, free cotton candy and popcorn, and educational displays from various health and safety institutions within our county on June 1.

The displays included the North Olympic Healthcare Network, who were there to recruit patients and talk about acquiring healthcare; Olympic Ambulance, who talked about the EMT program and had a ZOLL heart monitor to take people’s blood pressure; the Port Angeles Fire and Police departments; and Map Your Neighborhood, who talked about natural disasters and how to prepare for earthquakes.

They asked questions like, “Does a subduction zone earthquake have an epicenter?” The answer is no, they have a fault line that fractures.

The Forum helped to spread awareness to Peninsula College students about different local safety institutions.
