“X-Men: Apocalypse” is the sequel of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Directed by Bryan Singer, this movie received huge hype from fans when the first trailer released. But has it really reached the fans expectation?

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is set in the 1980s, about 10 years after “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

It was the year that the existence of mutants was recognized around the whole world and received good and bad reception from the normal. During that time, the world’s first mutant, El Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse, awaken after a thousand years.

As an immortal and God-like mutant, Apocalypse felt betrayed by people since they no longer worshipped him. He considered everything else as weak. Played by Oscar Isaac, Apocalypse has a mission to recruit a new team of powerful mutants and take over the world. And it’s the job of Mystique, Professor Xavier and the young X-Men squad to stop them.

This movie is only engaging for the last one hour. It has a pacing issue because the build up is really long and boring.

Since there are new characters in the sequel, including Apocalypse, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Cyclops and a host of others, it takes about an hour to introduce the characters. And it’s only a two hour movie.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is also lacking depth in the story. There are not many scenes that the audience can relate to. We don’t know the reason Apocalypse is awakening and his background life.

Despite the storyline, the action in the movie is top notch. Oscar Isaac is a Godly Apocalypse. There are many scenes in the movie that show how really strong Apocalypse is. The new, young X-Men squad display great chemistry with each other.

The Quicksilver scene is my favorite; but since I can’t describe how amazing that scene is, you’ll have to see it yourself to appreciate it.

In general, “X-Men: Apocalypse” clearly has it’s flaws. The lack of character depth and poor pacing spoils the movie.

It was a lot of fun to see the inexperienced X-Men squad battling against the all powerful Apocalypse for the sake of humanity. I’m looking forward to the next installment of the X-Men movie.
