Despite loss, Lady Pirates still in first place

Despite  tremendous effort, the Lady Pirates struggled against the Everett Trojans in a 71-77 loss on Saturday.The Lady Pirates did well in the first quarter, leading the game 18-14. They were less fortunate in the second and third quarter, as they allowed the Trojans to score 47 while only putting up 31 of their own.

The Lady Pirates pushed hard in the fourth quarter to keep the game alive, but the effort was a little too late. The Trojans walked earned the victory with a final score of 71-77.

Sophomore gaurd Alicia Dugan scored  27 points after going 11 for 19 from the field, including five three-pointers. She snatched four rebounds, stole the ball four times and handed out two assists. Forward Jenise McKnight collected 10 points and pulled in eight rebounds Tiffani Smith scored nine points and Sephora Yayouss scored five, grabbed five rebounds, a steal and two assists.

Even though the game resulted in a loss, the Lady Pirates share the lead in the North Division top with the  Skagit Valley Cardinals and the Bellevue Bulldogs. All three teams have a 7-2 record in league play.

The Lady Pirates next game will be against the Olympic Rangers in Bremerton, Feb.15 at 5:00 pm
