Campus Voices: What do you think of the Boy Scouts of America inviting girls to join their organization?

Sama Heinemann, 18 “I suppose it’s a cool idea because girl scouts usually center around girlish things and boy scouts are like survival. I think it’s really cool that girls want to learn those things. Although it’s kind of sad that they have to go into boy scouts to get that, but I suppose that’s what they’re doing is trying to open it up to other people. I can’t think of anything bad that’ll happen, so hopefully nothing bad does happen.”
Marvin Jordhi, 19 “Personally since I came from another country, I think boy scouts with girls as well has already been a common thing. I’d say it’s a good thing, guys will have more physical strength and girls will still have the mind power. I’d say with the presence of the girls in the boy scouts will create a more balanced environment.”
Kelly Kevershan, 19 “I honestly haven’t given it much thought. I did read about it though. It’s always good to have girls being accepted into things. But there is the girl scouts already. I am glad to see we’re breaking barriers though.”
Andy Gieger, 78 “I think it’s a fine idea if they adapt some of their materials so that the young women feel included and not like strangers but they’re welcome and it’s a real change in making it a co-educational program. I’m all for it, I think inclusion is a great step forward.”
Laila Arnorsdottir, 16 “I’m kind of confused because isn’t there the girl scouts? I think it’s cool though. I was in girl scouts as a kid and I really wanted to do survival stuff but all it was all pool parties. I think that’s really neat though. I think that’s really good they’re trying to make it easier on families.”
Brendan Withey, 42 “I think it’s great. I think that it promotes equality and I’m all for that. I think it’s a long time coming. Absolutely I support it.”
