Pirate Picks: New Year’s Resolutions 2019

By Saki Kambe

My new year’s resolution is to obtain the ability to express my feelings or to explain things without being dependent on emojis or exclamation mark when it comes to writing and texting.
In other words, to be able to know what words I used to explain what.
I held this as one of my new year’s resolutions because I often find myself feeling uncomfortable or even insecure of if the receiver (reader) actually gets what I really meant or if I made the right word choices, and I end up overusing exclamation mark or emojis to support my words. I think this is because I am not paying enough attention to the words I use.
However, as I chose to take part of this newspaper, at least for this quarter, I believe that this would be a great chance for me to rethink how I am dealing with my words in everyday life.

My new year’s resolutions are based off of my own wants, as well as needs to be more healthy physically as well as mentally. In 2018 I slacked off quite a bit in those two departments, and as a result faced some serious repercussions in both my relationship with myself as well as others. Overall, my resolutions for this year should help me promote a healthier, more guilt-free lifestyle that enables me to become the best version of myself. Here they are:
1. Cook at home more with better ingredients plus quality of food
2. Stretch for at least 15 minutes in the mornings
3. Write at least three journal entries a week
4. Compliment at least three people a day
5. Get at least seven hours of sleep a night
6. Stop drinking cow’s milk
7. Stop eating red meat
8. Spend less time on social media and more time engaged with those around me
9. Make better choices in general
10. Be kinder

As I enter this new year, 2019 is shaping up to be a year of change for me.
Hopefully graduating, moving and starting a new job this year, I’m really trying to put a emphasis on being more productive and taking on more responsibility financially and educationally. This includes writing daily in a planner so I am more aware of upcoming events, eating out less often with a better diet, and getting those small daily chores done every day so they won’t pile up. (Which happened a lot in 2018)
I’ve already taken several steps to be more productive and motivated, such as purchasing a planner, and a new work schedule in the early morning. With change being a natural part of life, and plenty of it coming this year, I want to be better prepared and embrace it, rather than cramming last second.
