Campus Voices: What did you do during the blackout?

Nic Seabolt, 24, East side of Sequim

I’m a volunteer Emergency Medcical Technician (EMT) with a fire department, so I waited for calls to come in, have it be medical smoke detector or something like that. So I waited by for calls and get out all of our candles and stuff like that. We have a generator so it was not too bad for us.

Marshall Matlock, 16, Outside Sequim

We lit some candles, closed off one of our rooms with the curtains while I brought a camp stove from outside into the room to help heat it and just played some card games such as Rummy 500 and Kings and President.

Hannah Gloor, 18, Sequim

I was going to have a pie and was getting prepared, but I couldn’t make the oven ready so I did bonfire and had toasted marshmallows.

Qi Pan, 28, West side of Port Angeles

I was over at Seattle when the blackout happened, but I came back to the fence of my house being snapped in half, so I had to rebuild it. I had to spend the whole Christmas day picking the branches in the front yard.

Chelsea Sanders, 19, Port Angeles

I took care of a four-year old, seven-year old, and twelve-year old while their mom and the oldest sister were both out of town. We didn’t have any power, and it was really rough. I had to go to a store to buy bread because all the food was in the fridge and the freezer, which I was not allowed to open. And I didn’t know how to entertain a four-year old without a television, so I put them to the bed earlier. I really didn’t know what to do.
