In response to earthquake emergency planning.

Dear Editor,
Thank you for printing the article “Preparing for the Big One,” about the Cascadia Earthquake in your December issue.
College students have a well known history of stepping forward to help our country during disasters. Students provided valuable service after tornadoes, floods and hurricanes.
Clallam County leads the state with its preparations for the “Big One.” Training is available for the light search and rescue (CERT) Community Emergency Response Teams, Map Your Neighborhood groups and Red Cross shelter staff.
No one knows when the great earthquake will happen. It may not happen in our lifetime, BUT if [it] does, it will be the defining event of our generation. We hope you will prepare for this emergency. Your life depends on it.
For more information please contact Clallam County Emergency Management at 360-417-2483.
Best wishes,
Jim Buck
