At the beginning of Winter quarter, Marty Martinez, Peninsula Colleges’ campus safety operations manager, installed new IceAlert technology to help prevent slips and falls on campus this winter.
12 significant falls were reported last year, one resulting in a broken wrist.
In hopes of preventing more injuries, the school invested in IceAlert.

What is IceAlert?

IceAlert uses a temperature sensitive reflector that begins to turn blue as the outside temperature hits 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and turns fully blue as temperatures drop to 32 degrees and lower.
Where are they located?

These devices are in use on several roadways throughout the U.S and in Canada, and now on our campus.
There are IceAlert signs located at every main entrance, and additionally at the base of the Library pedestrian ramp.
Martinez mentioned a helpful tip for watching out for icy conditions: When you get in your car to drive to class, work, etc., and you see ice or frost on it, it’s a likely chance that there will be frost or ice on the roads.
