Honors: Captstone catches college’s eye

By Forrest Maynock

The Honors Program is a program offered by Peninsula College that can be an extension of the standard AA degree. According the Dr. Underwood, one of the heads of the Honors Program, “The Honors Program is open to any student want- ing to be part of a learning process centered on excellence. The Honors degree can be attached to any AA or AS transfer degree.”

This program may appeal to some students who want to transfer to Universities after their time here at Peninsula College.

The program also offers the unique opportunity to work on a Capstone Project that is similar to doctorate level the- sis projects, but on a much smaller scale.

The project gives the student the ability to choose a topic of interest to research, and then research and present the completed project at the end of tenure at Peninsula College.

When asked about the Capstone Project Dr. Underwood explained, “[T] he Honors project can become the focal point of the transfer essay, where they can discuss something unique and outstand- ing they have completed. Transfer is a competitive process, and PC Honors students are unique amongst all those seek- ing to move on to excellent universities. It is that competitive advantage that will open up opportunities.”

Joining the Peninsula College Honors Program could give some students an edge when applying to Universities.
